Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth Engaged

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth Engaged
Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth are engaged to be married, their spokesperson confirmed to Us Weekly.

The couple began the relationship in January after Witherspoon broke up with Jake Gyllenhaal. Toth, 40, is an agent at Creative Arts Agency, where Witherspoon is a client, though not his.

Witherspoon was married to actor Ryan Phillippe for seven years -- they divorced in 2008 -- and the pair have two children : daughter Ava, 11, and son Deacon, 7.

Witherspoon opened up about the divorce to Entertainment Weekly earlier this month, saying : "It definitely sometimes feels like a suit that I wish I could zip off. But I don't feel bad about any of the things I've gone through, whether it's divorce or breakups or anything like that, because that's all part of the life journey, and I have those experiences just like anyone else. And I think it deepens what you tap into creatively."

Rebecca Sedille shot in the head during sex

Arthur killed Rebecca Sedille
The authorities in Oklahoma are figuring out whether to accuse a 23-year-old Arthur Sedille with murder over the death of his 50-year-old wife, Rebecca Sedille.

Arthur Sedille told authorities he was he and his wife, Rebecca Sedille, often used a hand gun for fantasy games during sexual intercourse. He said on December 21 they decided to play the same games, but unbeknownst to him, the gun was loaded.

Sedille called 911 right away after shooting his much older wife in the head.

The frantic husband told cops he took the pistol from a shelf beside his marital bed and racked the slide back causing the gun to cock. He said he then put the gun to his wifes head and pulled the trigger.

Police took Sedille into custody on suspicion of first-degree murder out of an abundance of caution, however, he has not been formally charged.

Assistant DA Paul Hesse said there is probably cause to charge Sedille with murder, but that decision will be made after he has the police report.

Sedille remained jailed in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma while the authorities continue with their investigation.

Watch "Just Go With It" Trailer - Starring Jennifer Aniston & Adam Sandler

Just Go With It Movie
With Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler starring the movie, people are hoping this can be very entertaining. Well, the trailer looks pretty good. Jennifer and Adam are both known as good romance-comedy movie stars. Nicole Kidman is also took a part in the story. Looks promising.

Despite of the good-looking trailer, there are rumors spread that "Just Go With It" is an uncredited remake of the comedy "Cactus Flower", starring Walter Matthau and Goldie Hawn. Even Jennifer Aniston has the same occupation as Ingrid Bergman in the "original" movie (as a doctor's receptionist). There is no official report yet about this fact. Either it was just a coincidence, or it IS an uncredited remake.

Meanwhile, let's take a closer look at the Just Go With It trailer below.

Sandler finds a woman who could be his soulmate in Brooklyn Decker (in a bikini), but when she finds the wedding ring in his pocket, it leads to an elaborate ruse in which Aniston pretends to be his ex-wife, and he has to pretend to be her kids’ dad, too.

As always, they both did a good job. Enjoy!

Jim Tressel about to leave Ohio State

The rumor on internet about Jim Tressel is confirmed by two sources that are very close to recruiting at prominent universities, right on Christmas day. Jim Tressel will no longer be the head football coach at Ohio State University after the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas.

Ohio State was shocked by the suspensions of five key players, including top running back Dan "Boom" Herron and Heisman-hopeful quarterback Terrelle Pryor, for the first five games of the 2011 season earlier this week.

The sources indicated that Buckeye recruits have been informed that Tressel will not be back as coach, and have been allowed to look for other options.

Ohio State has one of the largest compliance departments in the country, yet they have reported 375 violations to the NCAA from 2000-2009, the most in the country.

Early in Tressel's tenure at OSU he had to deal with the Maurice Clarrett debacle, and Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith was suspended for two games for accepting money from a booster. The latest violations are just another dark page in the recent history of the Buckeye program.

This is major news in the college football world, especially after the University of Miami made a coaching change immediately after the regular season. The thought that Tressel would be out of a job before Rich Rodriguez at Michigan is also astounding.

Where the Buckeyes go to find a replacement is anyone's guess. Would TCU coach Gary Patterson become a possibility? The number of professional jobs that could come available in early January could cloud the hiring process in Columbus.

Earthquake hit Puerto Rico on Friday

An earthquake shakes Puerto Rico on Friday (December 24, 2010). Measured 5.1 magnitude, the earthquake felt strong, trembled the city and rattled its residents.

The USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) stated that the earthquake's epicenter was about 15 miles south of Sanjuan with 64 miles depth. It Occurred at 7:43 PM local time (6:43 PM ET).

Fortunately, no injuries or damage being reported.

A Federal Aviation Administration official said the international airport in San Juan was open and operating normally.

"It lasted about 30 seconds and felt hard. Some guests did get a little scared," said Venus Nevarez, an employee at the El San Juan Hotel and Casino. She said nothing broke and that all the guests were fine.

The most recent strong earthquake occurred on October 11, 1918. This earthquake had an approximate magnitude of 7.5. Caused an up to 6 meters (19.5 feet) high tsunami, killed about 116 people and more that 4 million dollars damage.

Suspended, Terrelle Pryor to miss 5 games | Ohio State's 2011 Football Schedule

Terrelle Pryor
The Quarterback Terrelle Pryor and another four Buckeyes will miss the first five games of the 2011 Ohio State Buckeyes football season. Fans of Big Ten teams besides the Buckeyes may be disappointed to note four of Ohio State’s first five games are in Columbus, and three are all but guaranteed.

Akron Zips, Sept. 3: Though they may have been the nation’s worst team this year, Akron enters 2011 on a one-game winning streak, having shocked 2-10 Buffalo 22-14. There would be more honor in scheduling a top FCS school than in playing poor Akron.

Toledo Rockets, Sept. 10: Toledo is a decent enough MAC team, and even beat a supposed Big Ten team (Purdue) this year, so Tressel may need to leave the second-stringers in past halftime. The Rockets allowed more points to Northern Illinois than any other team did, and scored fewer on Arizona than any other team.

At Miami Hurricanes, Sept. 17: Competition begins in the hump week of Pryor’s suspension. Though Ohio State beat the Canes 36-24 in Columbus, a new coach and possibly quarterback may supplement Miami’s home field advantage here. Playing home games in Miami is technically more of a non-disadvantage than an advantage, but all right.

Colorado Buffaloes, Sept. 24: The Buffs were one of the Big 12’s worst teams this year, but without that meltdown against Kansas they would’ve been bowl eligible. Still, Ohio State is paying Colorado $1.4 million to play this game for a reason.

Michigan St. Spartans, Oct. 1: MSU fans are likely the most excited about today’s news, short of Michigan fans. Michigan State will lose a lot of talent this year — 11 starters, including star LB Greg Jones and three starting offensive linemen — and they haven’t traditionally been able to reload as swiftly as Ohio State has.

A 4-1 start is certainly not out of the question, nor is 5-0.

Million Dollar Money Drop has Texaco, Old El Paso, Alamo Rent A Car as answers

Tonight Million Dollar Money Drop took to the tough questions and this included some seriously amazing American history. The couple looking to make good money, Steve and Jennifer took to the questions like professionals but as we watched tonight, the anxiety of putting the cash on the correct drop can be difficult.

The fifth question of the night reminds us all why a little healthy pop culture is essential to keep the brain cells going. The question had everything to do with Texas and the products America uses. The question was 'Which of these brands was founded in the State of Texas? The three choices were quite misleading and the couple lost some cash in the process of elimination. The possible answers were Old El Paso, Alamo Rent a Car and Texaco.

The correct answer for the evening was Texaco. You might be asking yourself where was Texaco founded? According to the Internet, the Texas Fuel Company, founded in 1901 in Beaumont, Texas, by Joseph S. Cullinan, Thomas J. Donoghue, Walter Benona Sharp, and Arnold Schlaet upon discovery of oil at Spindletop. The company sold gas in all 50 states and was independent until it merged in 2001.

The 'Cheat Sheet' for the Million Dollar Money Drop question number 5 is:

Where was Texaco founded? Beaumont Texas in 1901.

Where was Old El Paso founded? New Mexico.

Where was Alamo Rent a Car founded? Florida.

The couple playing tonight definitely lost money on this question, but at the end of the game walked away a winner with some serious cash! We enjoyed playing and will be watching again tomorrow night with more 'cheat sheets' to answer the questions.

Heidi Jones, ABC Weatherwoman, Sold Fake Story To Police

Heidi Jones, a weather woman for WABC/Channel 7, is in trouble for selling a fake rape story to police, The New York Post reports.

Heidi Jones first reported that a man had accosted her and tried to rape her while jogging in Central Park -- but reported this two months after the fact. Police investigated the matter extensively, reviewing surveillance footage from the day of the alleged attack. Then she told the police that man who attacked was harassing her, and he contacted her saying, "I know you went to the police."

When they went back to question Jones again, they found discrepancies in her story.

Once cops confronted her on the inconsistencies of her story, Jones fessed up to having invented the story as a plea for attention. She said she was having some personal problems in her life and thought the story would gain her sympathy.

Now Heidi Jones, who is usually a very plucky and upbeat presence during her weekend forecast, is charged with filing a false police report. If convicted, she faces either a year in jail with a chance of a $1,000 fine.

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg is TIME's Person of the Year 2010

Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has been named TIME magazine's Person of the Year. The annual award is a staple of U.S. journalism. Others considered were Julian Assange, Hamid Karzai. Rick Stengel, the magazine's managing editor, made the announcement Wednesday on NBC's "Today" show.

Zuckerberg created the widely popular and influential social networking site, which reflects a major transformation in the way people communicate and do business.

Facebook has merged with the social fabric of American life, and not just American but human life: nearly half of all Americans have a Facebook account, but 70% of Facebook users live outside the U.S. It's a permanent fact of our global social reality. We have entered the Facebook age, and Mark Zuckerberg is the man who brought us here.

TIME noted that in less than seven years, Zuckerberg wired together a twelfth of humanity into a single network, thereby creating a social entity almost twice as large as the U.S.

If the service were a country it would be the third largest, behind only China and India, TIME wrote.

Geminid Meteor Shower: A Guide to the Big Light Show

The Geminid meteor shower, a dazzling display of shooting stars, is once again making appearances across the evening sky this week. Although the celestial phenomenon technically lasts from Dec. 12 to 16, astronomers say Dec. 13 and 14 is prime viewing time.

Geza Gyuk, an astronomer at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, is among the many scientists who believe that today's and Tuesday's Geminid showings will arguably be the most enchanting meteor showers of the year.

"The Geminids have been slowly getting better over the past years, making it one of the best showers," Gyuk told National Geographic. "And it has become very reliable, so we can expect a fairly nice show."

No Ph.D. in astronomy? No worries. Surge Desk offers a quick Geminid Q&A to get you ready for some stargazing:

When is the best time to watch?
Those stargazers willing to brave low temperatures and late hours will be rewarded. The peak viewing time "will center on the early morning hours of December 14, between about 2 a.m. and dawn," according to National Geographic.

Where should I look for the meteors?
The best views will be offered in the Northern Hemisphere (sorry, Antarctica.) The shower will rise over the eastern horizon, so stargazers should face northeast to enjoy the show.

How many meteors can I expect to see?
According to NASA, "realistic viewing rates" for this year's shower are "50-80 meteors per hour and potential peaks reaching 120 meteors per hour."

How does this meteor shower differ from the Perseid meteor shower?
Unlike the Perseid meteor shower, Geminid meteors fly by fairly slowly in "long duration streaks" and appear in various colors, according to Astronomy Now's Greg Smye-Rumsby.

Is star gazing safe?
To put a twist on what the late Kenneth Franklin, former chief astronomer for New York's Hayden Planetarium, once told a concerned sky-gazer, the only danger of watching the Geminid meteor shower is falling asleep in the snow.

NYC Ballerina Jennifer Ringer Responds To Alastair Macaulay's Body Criticism In NY Times Review

New York City Ballet dancer Jenifer Ringer appeared on the Today Show this morning to respond to a comment made about her weight in a recent NY Times review of her performance in The Nutcracker.

Dance critic Alastair Macaulay made a comment that Ringer, 37, looked like “she’d eaten one sugar plum too many”.

“It made me feel bad, it was embarrassing,” Ringer said was her immediate reaction to the comment.

Today’s society puts enough pressure on women to be thin, especially ballerinas.  Is this a message we want our daughters to see?

Ringer, who was criticized for her weight, recalls her own struggles with an eating disorder and says the beauty of her troupe is the variety of body types it features, saying “that’s what should be celebrated.”

Macaulay responded to the uproar with yet another articles in the  NY Times defending his decision to comment on the dancer’s body under the justification that if you’d rather not be critiqued on your body, don’t enter the world of dance.

He wrote: ” This has caused a certain brouhaha online, and a minor deluge of reader e-mails, in many cases obscene and abusive. The general feeling was that my characterizations went beyond the pale of civilized discourse. One reader wrote that the review was ‘appalling’, ‘heartbreaking’, ‘childish’, ‘hurtful’ and ‘incompetent’.”

The media uproar about his criticism come from the fact that Jenifer Ringer had previously been very open about her eating disorders in the past, having admitted to overeating and anorexia.   Watch the video.

Big Ten Announces New Logo and Division Names

Park Ridge, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference today made several announcements that complete a series of decisions prompted by the upcoming addition of the University of Nebraska – Lincoln as the conference’s 12th member school. The conference revealed a new logo to be used for all sports beginning with the 2011-12 academic year and also unveiled names for its two football divisions and a list of names for 18 trophies to honor coaches, teams and student-athletes starting with the 2011 football season.

"When we announced football division alignments in September, other associated decisions had not yet been made.  We wanted to take some time to listen, carefully consider, and make choices that would best honor our history and traditions, reflect our core values and characteristics, and tell our story," said Big Ten Commissioner James E. Delany. "We involved many thoughtful, dedicated professionals and we listened to many ideas from our member schools, alumni and fans."

The new Big Ten logo was developed by Michael Bierut and Michael Gericke of the international design firm Pentagram.

"The new Big Ten logo was developed to symbolize the conference’s future, as well as its rich heritage, strong tradition of competition, academic leadership, and passionate alumni," said Gericke. "Its contemporary collegiate lettering includes an embedded numeral ‘10’ in the word ‘BIG,’ which allows fans to see ‘BIG’ and ‘10’ in a single word. Memorable and distinctive, the new logo evolved from the previous logo’s use of negative space and is built on the conference’s iconic name, without reference to the number of member institutions."

The new logo also provides the flexibility of multiple versions which can be used horizontally, vertically and within new media.

"The new Big Ten logo provides a contemporary identifying mark unifying 12 outstanding institutions," said Delany. "It conveys some elements from the past while simultaneously introducing new features. We think the new logo is fun and has something for everyone."

The conference also announced today that its football divisions, starting with the 2011 season, will be "Legends" and "Leaders."  A breakdown of the divisions is listed below:

LEGENDS: Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern
LEADERS: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin

"‘Legends’ is a nod to our history and to the people associated with our schools who are widely recognized as legends - student-athletes, coaches, alumni and faculty. ‘Leaders’ looks to the future as we remain committed to fostering leaders, the student-athletes who are encouraged to lead in their own way for the rest of their lives, in their families, in their communities and in their chosen professions," said Delany. "We’re proud of our many legends and even prouder of our member institutions that develop future leaders every day."

Finally, the Big Ten announced the creation of 18 trophies to honor just a small sampling of the countless student-athletes and coaches who have contributed to the conference’s rich and storied history. Starting with the 2011 season, the Big Ten will honor its top football student-athletes with these newly named trophies.

"These trophies will honor our legends and leaders for generations to come," said Delany.  "The names on these trophies are fitting tributes to the hundreds of thousands of student-athletes and coaches whose hard work and dedication have contributed to the legacy of the Big Ten Conference over the past 115 years."

Nicole Richie Wedding | Nicole Richie & Joel Madden Marry

The Nicole Richie wedding to longtime beau Joel Madden finally happened yesterday - Saturday, December 11 - after much speculation! The Nicole Richie wedding took place at the estate of her father, Lionel Richie, and was a small, but extremely lavish affair.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s two children, Harlow and Sparrow, were no doubt delighted when a celebrity guest showed up at their parents’ wedding…an elephant!

Spies spotted a trained elephant being led into Lionel’s estate earlier on Saturday! The elephant’s role in the ceremony wasn’t immediately known.

Other celebrities who were in attendance at the Nicole Richie wedding were Gwen Stefani, Ashlee Simpson, and Kris Jenner. Benji Madden served as his brother Joel’s best man, and Samantha Ronson was a bridesmaid.

Did Nicole Richie’s on-again, off-again BFF Paris Hilton make it to her wedding? So far, no reports of her being there have surfaced. Maybe she will turn up once the Nicole Richie wedding photos are released.

Congratulations to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden on their wedding!

Metrodome Collapse – Metrodome In Minneapolis Minnesota Collapses

The snowstorm that dumped more than 20 inches of snow on parts of Minnesota brought down the roof of the Metrodome on Sunday morning. Witnesses, including the security director at the Holiday Inn Metrodome, said the roof is no longer visible above the dome's concrete bowl.

The Metrodome’s inflatable roof has been crushed under the load of snow that has fallen. What are they are going to do? They are still brain storming but there are some that say they should just tear the roof off and play “real football”.

A blizzard warning remains in effect for the area so they are not getting ready to dig out and work on the Metrodome collapse just yet. There is still more snow to come, this was just the beginning. You would think that after seeing the past snow of Minnesota they would get it that – it’s going to snow. Maybe next year they are going to be more prepared.

The Metrodome collapse isn’t the only problem that they are having either. There are many roads that are closed and other problems to deal with after over 17 inches of snow covered the twin cities. Even the Giants were stranded in Kansas City,MO after their flight could not take off for it’s destination because of the snow. The Metrodome collapse was by far the most noticeable of all of the problems however.

Georges St. Pierre Vs. Josh Koscheck UFC 124 - Results and Reaction

Before Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre faced Josh Koscheck on Saturday December 11, he trained with Freddie Roach, working on his boxing skills. Roach told Fight Hub TV, “The thing is with Georges, he needs to loosen up a little bit and be more fluent cause he's very strong of course, but he was a little bit stiff. So, I'm getting him looser, more elusive, more head movement.” He also predicated that, “He'll knock him out with the left hook in that fight…”

Well, the knockout did not come and the left hook was not the punch that did the most damage, but everything else that Roach said, well, that rang true.

St. Pierre set the tone of the fight from the first seconds landing a hard left jab. After a failed takedown attempt, St. Pierre decided to go back to the jab and he rode that punch the entire round. By the end of the first, Koscheck’s right eye was a swollen mess and well on its way to closing.

The second round was more of the same, St. Pierre landing the left at will and throwing in some leg kicks for good measure. Koscheck had no answer for any of St. Pierre’s offense and early on it was locking bleak for the challenger.

The third round began with Koscheck’s eye almost completely swollen shut and well, jab, kick, jab, jab, kick from GSP and again, no answer to any of it from Koscheck.

The fourth and fifth rounds went the same way as the first three, so to recap them in detail would be redundant.  Suffice it to say that it was all St. Pierre, so when the decision came down 50-45 on all cards in favor of the champion, it was no surprise.

This fight showcased that St. Pierre is a champion that is not content to rest on his laurels. Before this fight he looked for a way to become an even better mixed martial arts fighter and he accomplished that with his work with Roach, devastating Koscheck with an attack that was totally unexpected.

Koscheck had no answer for anything that St. Pierre threw his way; he dominated the fight start to finish.

Both fighters showed class at the end of the bout. St. Pierre implored the crowd to give Koscheck props for his effort. He acknowledged that Koscheck was a great at hyping the fight.

For his part Koscheck turned his mouth off after the fight and seemed actually likable when he thanked the crowd and apologized for his performance. He also stated something that anyone that saw the fight cannot doubt; “He (St. Pierre) is the number one pound for pound fighter in the world.”

So, what’s next for Georges St. Pierre? Is there anyone in the welterweight division that can offer him a fight? Is Jake Shields next? What will he bring to challenge the champion?

If Anderson Silva defeats Vitor Belfort in February, I would not be surprised to see St. Pierre move up to middleweight and challenge him for the title. The time seems right, for it seems as if St. Pierre has exhausted all challenges in the welterweight division.

Dual-camera iPad 2 rumor finally hits mainstream media

Having been rumored for months, Reuters is finally reporting today that Apple's upcoming iPad 2nd generation will include dual cameras, a standard rear camera and a front-side camera for video conferencing.

The report says component suppliers are already preparing to begin producing the updated tablet, which should see launch in April.

Further more, the revamped tablet will be slimmer, lighter and use Retina Display, as seen on the iPhone 4.

Additionally, the news agency says Apple is preparing a smaller version of the tablet, despite CEO Steve Jobs dismissing the rumor that anything smaller than the current 9.7-inche model was in the works.

Says Kaufman Bros analyst Shaw Wu: "Having different sizes expands the market and makes it appeal to more people."

Steven Tseng, an analyst at RBS believes Apple will unveil the iPad 2 and a smaller iPad model next month during an event: "I think Steve Jobs will announce the new product in January, and we should see the new product hitting shops in about April."

Will Muschamp becomes Florida's next coach

"This is a dream come true," Will Muschamp said in a statement.

The defensive coordinator and heir apparent at Texas jumped to Florida on Saturday night, taking over one of the premier jobs in college football and replacing two-time national champion Urban Meyer.

Muschamp will be introduced at a news conference Tuesday evening.

He also will be reunited with a place he used to call home. Muschamp spent 10 years in Gainesville as a kid, graduated from Georgia and coached at Auburn and LSU.

He knows Florida. He knows the Southeastern Conference. For the Florida Gators, that background outweighed his lack of head-coaching experience.

"I grew up watching the Gators and whatever other SEC team was on television," Muschamp said. "I have great memories watching SEC football with my father on Saturdays and playing football in the back yard with my two brothers right here in Gainesville."

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said he targeted Muschamp shortly after Meyer resigned Wednesday and he was the only person to whom Foley offered the job.

Foley said Muschamp's familiarity with the SEC was an important factor.

"We wanted a candidate who was high energy and had been on the big stage," Foley said in a statement. "We wanted a candidate who was respected by his players and his peers, and we wanted someone who had a passion for the University of Florida. Coach Muschamp is all of those things and more."

The timing of the announcement raised some eyebrows. Did the Gators plan the announcement to coincide with the Heisman Trophy ceremony? Former Florida quarterback Cam Newton, now Auburn's offensive star, won the award a little more than two years after he left Gainesville in the midst of cheating allegations and following his arrest on a theft charge.

The hire also was met with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Some raved about Muschamp's background and his fiery demeanor. Others questioned whether a longtime assistant coach would be the right fit for one of the nation's elite programs.

Meyer, however, applauded the hire.

"Coach Muschamp is a great hire for the University of Florida," Meyer said in a statement. "He is a relentless recruiter and brings a tremendous amount of energy and passion to the game. I would run into him on the road often on the recruiting trail and have always been impressed with him as a coach and a person."

Meyer walked away from the job Wednesday, four days after he called Foley and said he was contemplating the move, and left about $20 million guaranteed on the table.

This season the Gators were near the bottom the SEC in every offensive category, got blown out by Alabama, South Carolina and Florida State, and finished 7-5. It was the most losses in Meyer's 10-year coaching career.

Several freshmen transferred, others threatened to leave and there seemed to be a huge divide between the team's underachieving seniors and Meyer's highly touted newcomers. Players refused to point fingers, but there were outcries for personnel and assistant coaching changes. There also was another arrest, the 30th involving 27 players during Meyer's tenure.

Muschamp will try to turn things around.

He was already one of the hottest names among assistant coaches when he was hired at Texas before the 2008 season.

Internet video clips of his expletive-filled tirades on the sidelines at Auburn excited Longhorns fans. He had alternate nicknames of "Coach Boom!" for his noted enthusiasm and "Coach Blood" because he once ignored blood pouring down his face after a cut in the first game of the 2008 season.

Muschamp was only 11 games into his stint at Texas when the university surprisingly announced a deal to nearly double his salary to $900,000 and make him the head-coach-in-waiting behind Brown.

Brown was behind the move but insisted he had no plans to retire, leaving some to wonder if Muschamp would have the patience to put in the years at Texas before taking over.

"More than anything, I want to thank Mack Brown," Muschamp said. "I'm so grateful for the opportunity he gave me and my family and all of the guidance. He is the best in the business, and I can't say enough about everything he did to help prepare me for this. He really wanted it to work out for me to be the future coach at Texas, but this was just an opportunity I couldn't pass up.

"It's close to my family and my wife's family, and like Texas, Florida is just a tremendous place in a great conference. I wouldn't have left for any other job."

Muschamp's defense was a key part of the Texas 25-2 run over the 2008-2009 seasons that saw the Longhorns rise to No. 1 for a month in 2008 and play for the BCS national championship last season.

The defense faltered badly in 2010, however, as Texas went 2-5 at home and suffered its first losing season in 13 years with dismal losses to UCLA, Iowa State and Kansas State.

"We were planning and hoping Will was going to be the next head coach at Texas, but obviously things didn't work out that way," Brown said. "We respect his decision, and we are really happy for Will and (his wife) Carol. He is a great coach and will be a good fit for Florida."

Brown now must find his fifth defensive coordinator since 2003. The last three, Greg Robinson (Syracuse), Gene Chizik (Iowa State and now at Auburn) and Muschamp, all left Texas for head coaching jobs.

"Our commitment remains that we will build the best coaching staff in the country and we will begin a nationwide search immediately," Brown said.

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton captures Heisman Trophy

Cam Newton
Auburn quarterback Cam Newton was the runaway winner of the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night. Newton beat out other finalists Andrew Luck of Stanford, LaMichael James of Oregon and Kellen Moore to become the 76th winner of college football's top individual honor.

Luck finished second followed by James and Moore.

Newton has carried the Tigers to a 13-0 record with an SEC conference championship and a berth in the BCs title game.

The junior led the SEC in rushing with 1,409 yards, scored 21 touchdowns and was the nation's top-rated passer with 2,589 yards passing and 28 TD throws.

He is the third winner in school after Bo Jackson and Pat Sullivan.

The victory is not without controversy. The NCAA ruled that Newton's father, Cecil Newton, tried to engineer a play-for-pay scheme that would have sent his son to Mississippi State. The NCAA also said there was no evidence Newton or Auburn knew about his father's dealings, so the star junior was not punished.

Cecil Newton did not attend the Heisman Trophy ceremony, saying he did not want to overshadow his son's accomplishment.

Ex-'Dog awaits Army-Navy clash

Kyler Martin continues to tackle all the Army throws at him, from basic training and the rigors of West Point to three position changes in two years on the football field.

Martin will be at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia today for the 111th Army-Navy game. The game is nationally televised beginning at 11:30 a.m. on CBS (Channels 5 and 13).

The Vacaville High School graduate wears jersey No. 83 and spends the bulk of his time on special teams, though he he has seen action this season in a backup role at strong safety.

The Army-Navy game has usually marked the end of the season for the Black Knights. But Army has a record of 6-5 and has already earned a date in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 30 in Dallas against SMU, regardless of today's outcome.

"It's our first bowl in years, so we're pretty excited about that," Martin said. "But we also look at the Navy game as a bowl game in itself. It's our biggest rival and an opportunity to play a great team and school."

Navy holds the overall advantage at 54-49-7 and has owned the series in recent years by winning eight straight. The Midshipmen won 17-3 last year and no current member of the Black Knights has ever beaten Navy.

Martin went to West Point expecting to be a receiver, but like a good soldier, he has been able to adapt. Last year Army needed more depth at linebacker, and Martin was one of only eight freshman on the team to earn a letter. He played in 12 games and made 16 tackles.

This year he again went into spring ball with the intent of playing receiver. He impressed coaches and earned a backup role, but was asked to change his plans again.

Martin moved to strong safety and has played in seven games as a sophomore with one tackle. Most of the time when he plays he lines up tight on slot receivers.

"I was a little disappointed," Martin admitted, "but it was just a personnel decision and the coaches thought I just move to the other side of the ball. I still knew a lot of the defensive calls from playing the linebacker position. I just had to learn the new schemes and work on backpedaling."

Alistair Overeem Crowned K-1 World Grand Prix Champion, Crushes Peter Aerts in Final

Heavyweights in combat sports have an appeal that is undeniable. While mixed martial arts fans and boxing fans alike have equally suffered through some trying times in finding a suitable heavyweight to fill their need for powerful strikers within the division, there is usually some promising talent on the horizon that has the potential to become that type of attraction. Not since the days of Mike Tyson have we seen a devastating puncher who can attract people to a sport who aren't necessarily committed to watching it on a consistent basis, but Alistair Overeem's K-1 World Grand Prix final performance may be a sign of things to come.

In a mere one minute and seven seconds, Overeem destroyed his opponent, 40-year-old K-1 legend Peter Aerts, with a ferocious salvo of punches that had even the hardest of the hardcore K-1 fans gasping in awe. While it was predicted by many, including myself, that Overeem would walk his way through the competition and win the title, his path to glory wasn't as easy as expected.

Tyrone Spong used his speed to frustrate Overeem in the quarterfinals, hurting him at one point in the first round and creating some doubt in Overeem's abilities to win the crown. After the scare, Overeem regained his composure and secured the victory after knocking down Spong in the third round.

In the semifinals, Overeem met Turkish-Dutch fighter Gokhan Saki, who had narrowly defeated Daniel Ghita in the quarterfinals in a brutal war of attrition. Saki only lasted two minutes and thirty-three seconds in the first round as Overeem glanced a heavy kick off Saki's right elbow, breaking it instantly. Other reports confirmed that Saki was also harboring a broken hand, and Mike Kogan, one of HDNet's commentators, suggested that something was wrong early in the fight due to Saki's hesitance to throw with the right.

It wasn't the ideal situation for Peter Aerts as he had one of the toughest fights of his career in the semifinals against last year's World Grand Prix champion, Semmy Schilt. Aerts implemented an aggressive gameplan of pushing foward and lunging punches at Schilt, and while it was a narrowly contested bout -- Aerts' relentlessness in the final frame paid off as he blasted Semmy with multiple overhands to secure the victory.

Aerts suffered a cut during the bout, and there was some question as to whether he would be allowed to continue. But Aerts wasn't going to quit at that point, not when he was on the verge of making history and shocking the entire combat sports world. Unfortunately, Overeem, who had beaten Aerts in the final 16 leg in last year's Grand Prix, was an insurmountable obstacle standing in his way.

Overeem's demeanor changed from fight to fight, and Aerts met the most aggressive version of Overeem in the finals. He stalked Aerts with a sense of urgency that we hadn't seen earlier in the evening, and it hinted at the possibility of Overeem pacing himself in his quarterfinal bout with Spong. There was no need for a governor on Overeem's engine in the final however, and he exploded in a fury of combinations that disintegrated any notion that Aerts stood a chance.

Alistair's performance in the Grand Prix certainly raises questions regarding his appeal and potential in Strikeforce in 2011. He's obviously one of the biggest sports stars in Japan, and the win will only bring more attention to the fact that the ferocity he brings to a fight should translate to dominance in the mixed martial arts world. I'll remain skeptical as to whether that will happen, but it's hard to ignore the fact that Alistair is one of the most exciting heavyweights on the planet.
